Address: Kalala Road, Daly Waters NT 852

    About Daly Waters Aviation Complex

In tiny Daly Waters visit Australia's first international airport, which played an important role in World War II and as a post-war aviation hub. The Daly Waters Aviation Complex, located 3 kilometres off the Stuart Highway, is the oldest aviation structure in the Northern Territory. Built in 1930, the hangar and airstrip played an important role during World War II. In post-war years it continued to be used as a civil aerodrome, becoming an aviation hub as part of the new international air route between Australia and England. The complex was restored in 1992 and today the complex houses an interesting display. You will see the original large corrugated iron Qantas hangar building, the steel clad Shell Oil Store, the former staff and grounds men's living quarters and the remains of the radio and navigational buildings. This is a registered heritage attraction. To access this site you will require a key, which is available from Daly Waters Pub.
